Backing up your files to the network

using separate windows.

Step 1. Make sure you are logged onto the Novell network with your Novell logon ID.

Step 2. Find the "My Computer" Icon located in the top right hand corner of your desktop.
It looks like this:

Step 3. Double Click on said icon. You'll see a screen that looks a lot like this.

Step 4. Now double click on C (assuming that is your hard drive). When the window opens, navigate to the folder or file you wish to backup, and then RESIZE that window so that it only takes up half your screen. You can resize a window by clicking in the lower right-hand corner of the screen (you'll see a diagonal resize arrow when you are in the right place) and DRAGGING the window to the appropriate size. Then go up to the blue window frame at the top of the window to DRAG the window to one side of your screen. Click here for an example.

Step 6. Now open up your Network drive (usually F). Again, navigate to the folder you want to put things in, and resize that window. The goal here is to be able to see both your C window and your F window at the same time. Click here for an example.

Step 7. Finally, DRAG the folder or files from your C drive to your F drive. Click here for an example. In this case, I am transferring the folder "bbbbbbbb" (and all of its contents) to my F Drive.

Note: To choose multiple files, you can do one of several things.

     First, you could put all the files you wish to backup into a single folder on your C drive (called "backup" or
     something inventive like that) and then just transfer the whole folder into your Network drive. Remember that
     folders can be nested, so you can put a COPY of files and folders into the "backup" folder in order to keep
     everything nice and organized.
     Second, you can choose multpile files from the same list by holding the CTRL key and using the mouse o click on
     each file you want to transfer. When you are done selecting files, jsut DRAG any of the files into the F drive, and
     the whole group will follow.
     You can also use the mouse to create a selection box, whereby everything contained within the box parameters is
     selected. To do this simply hold the left mouse button down and DRAG (just like you would do for normal
     selection).
